ABOUT SOUNDMARK LAW
Protecting reputation, creativity, and business

FOUNDER & LAWYER
Abhi Ranade
Law Society of Ontario licence no. 90546L
Abhi Ranade is an Ontario lawyer and the founder of Soundmark Law Professional Corporation. He advises individuals, creators, professionals, and businesses on legal problems involving reputation, intellectual property, contracts, employment relationships, domain names, emerging technology, and outside general counsel support.
Soundmark Law is built around a practical idea: legal issues rarely stay inside one category. A reputational dispute may involve media, privacy, employment, or commercial relationships. A creative project may raise copyright, trademark, contract, and business questions at the same time.
Abhi brings legal training together with a background in science, economics, music production, and technology. That multidisciplinary perspective helps the firm identify the real problem, explain the available options clearly, and pursue a proportionate path forward.
Education & professional involvement
- Juris Doctor, University of Manitoba
- BSc in Biochemistry and Economics, University of Toronto

Legal work & perspective
Abhi’s work has included Federal Court proceedings, intellectual-property and reputation disputes, trademark applications, demand letters, domain-name matters, commercial agreements, and negotiated resolutions.
He writes about developments at the intersection of law, media, creativity, technology, and business, including through the Ontario Bar Association’s Entertainment, Media and Communications Law Section.
Every matter begins with understanding the client’s actual objective. Soundmark Law then defines the legal work, explains the trade-offs, and looks for a solution proportionate to the problem.

WHY “SOUNDMARK”?
A name rooted in law, sound, and identity
A sound mark is a trademark in which sound identifies the source of goods or services. The MGM lion’s roar is one of the best-known examples.
The name Soundmark reflects the firm’s connection to trademarks, creative work, music, media, identity, and expression. It also captures the firm’s broader purpose: helping clients protect what they have created, built, said, or become known for.
